Chi-Long Trieu talked on typeface “Programme”

Our gallery hold the lectures and party with
Lausanne (Switzerland) based graphic designers and type designers
Chi-Long Trieu and Chi-Binh Trieu.
After having studied graphic design at ECAL, University of
Art and Design Lausanne, both Chi-Long and Chi-Binh brothers are currently
focused on activities in the graphic design based on
typography-oriented concepts.

Their short powerpoint lectures will include topics as their works,
their production processes, technology and typography,
ECAL which has been garnering international attention as a design university,
and so called “Swiss typography”, etc.
There will be a party after the lecture, the slides and works
will be displayed during the party.

Fortunate opportunity has made this event possible,
as Chi-Binh Trieu accepts 2016 TOKYO TDC Award and
they visit to Japan.

Chi-Long Trieu

Director of Technology and Licensing at Optimo Type Foundry in
Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2014 he is teaching Graphic Design
at EPFL+ECAL Lab and ECAL/University for Art and Design Lausanne.
In 2013, he won a design residency from the City of Fribourg
and spent 6 months in New York, where he worked on several projects
including collaborations with Ari Marcopoulos and Camille Henrot.
Chi-Long is also working for Workflow, a research project at
ECAL on printing technologies led by Maximage.
His collaboration with the group started in 2012, when he worked
on their typeface “Programme”. He currently designed his new typeface
“Basel Grotesk”, etc.

Chi-Binh Trieu

Born in Fribourg, Switzerland in 1990. After working at
telecommunication company Mediamatics for 4 years,
he finally became aware of his passion to new communication technics
and graphic design and decided to study at ECAL.
After graduating from ECAL with degree in Graphic Design,
he worked as an intern at the Embassy of Switzerland in Tokyo/Japan.
While working in Japan, he found common ground between
Japanese and Swiss culture, i.e. their accuracy, simpleness,
elegance and especially “harmony”, and started to be
fascinated by Japanese culture.
Currently active as a graphic designer in Lausanne.
He was awarded TOKYO TDC prize in 2016 for
his new signage system proposal for Gutenberg Museum
in his hometown Fribourg.

スイスのローザンヌを拠点に活躍するグラフィックデザイナー・タイプデザイナー
Chi-Long Trieu（チロン・トリュー）とChi-Binh Trieu（チビン・トリュー）兄弟による
レクチャーと懇親会的なパーティをおこないます。

兄弟ともにECAL（ローザンヌ美術大学）でグラフィックデザインを学び、
現在はタイポグラフィを活動と発想の軸に据え活躍する２人によるレクチャーはスライド形式で、
作品と制作プロセス、テクノロジーとタイポグラフィについて、近年デザイン大学として
国際的に注目されているECALについて、タイポグラフィについて…等々を
作品の実物も交え簡潔に語ります(日本語通訳有り)。

本イベントはチビン・トリューが2016年のTOKYO TDC賞を受賞し日本に来るということ、
またグラフィックデザイナー・タイプデザイナーの兄チロンも一緒に来日する機会にあわせ開催、
レクチャー後はチロン・トリューとチビン・トリューを交えスライド上映と
作品を前にした懇親会的なパーティとなります。

チロン・トリユー

ECAL（ローザンヌ美術大学）を卒業。現在、ジュネーブを拠点とするタイプファウンドリー
Optimoにてテクニカル及びライセンスに関するディレクターを務める他、
Gavillet & Cieではグラフィックデザイナーとしてアート系出版社 JRP Ringier の書籍や
季刊誌のデザインに携る。2014年より母校であるローザンヌのECAL（ローザンヌ美術大学）及び
EPFL+ECAL Lab（ローザンヌ工科大学とECALに併設の、デザインを通じた
技術革新についての研究機関）にてグラフィックデザインを教える。
デジタルとアナログ両面から印刷についてリサーチするECALでのプロジェクト
Workflowに2012年より参加、制作メンバーの一員として書体Programmeを制作した。
Programmeはその後タイプファウンドリーOptimoよりリリース。
現在、和文との混植も視野に入れた書体Basel Grotesk バーゼルグロテスクを制作中。

Chi-Binh Trieu
チビン・トリユー

1990年スイスのフリブールに生まれる。通信会社Mediamaticsで4年間の
研修の後、新しい伝達手段とグラフィックデザインへの情熱に目覚め、
ECAL（ローザンヌ美術大学）に入学、2014年にグラフィックデザインの学位を取得する。
その後来日、東京のスイス大使館科学技術部でインターンデザイナーとして
働くことで日本について発見する。両国には正確性、簡素であること、エレガンス、
そして何より調和という多くの類似性があることから、日本の文化に魅力を感じるようになる。
現在はグラフィックデザイナーとして独立、こうした類似性を具体化する
作品の制作に取り組んでいる。故郷フリブール市にあるグーテンベルク博物館の
新たなサインシステムの提案により2016年のTDC Tokyo賞を受賞。
